XP to Windows 7 Upgrade
Many of us out there chose not to get Windows Vista installed on our new computers. Many people downgraded from Vista to XP or ensured they bourght a computer with XP and not Vista. The problem now is with the introduction of Windows 7 plenty of XP users want to do a upgrade XP to Windows 7. There is just one little catch. An upgrade from XP to Windows 7 is not something that Microsoft supports.
The big M is getting a little gruff out there for not providing an upgrade option for XP users. Microsoft said that because of how old XP is they can not provide a solid upgrade path between the two operating systems. I am still perplexed by this. I know of one company out there that provides software to do just that. For the life of me I don’t know why a third party vendor could make such a tool yet Microsoft was not able to or did not want to. You can learn more about the software that can handle the upgrade from the above link.
So What Are You Going to do?
You can always format your XP computer and install a fresh copy of Windows 7. This does mean you would have to re-install your programs and make a backup of your data first. A good site to check out on backing up files and doing file transfers is this pc to pc file transfer site.
Another way that this can be done is to first upgrade to Vista and then to Windows 7. This is not that good of an option because you would be wasting a good hundred bucks on purchasing Vista as well. This option sure beats having to purchase Vista for the sole purpose of upgrading to Windows 7. That is why we recommend using the only software known to XP to Windows 7 upgrade.
I think plenty of people out there got a raw deal on this one. On the bright side of things many experts out they say Windows 7 is the best operating system Microsoft has ever put out. Be sure and download the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser program first. It’s free from Microsoft and it will let you know if all your hardware and software programs are compatible. Be prepared to have to update some of your drivers and some software programs.
